Any healthy person (both male and female-)-between >18 to 60 years of-age can donate blood. At the period of blood donation the donor should not have any infectious disease fever and they should be free from diseases such as hepatities. leukaemia. AIDS etc. Same person can donate blood once in 3 to 4 months period. the Blood that collected from the donor is stored under sterile conditions in specially constructed places called BLOOD BANKS. It is prevented from clotting
by adding sodium citrate or heparin. Blood is stored for 35-45 days and if it is not used during
this period after collection. It is discarded.
.Generally people have wrong ideas about blood donation that it affects the health of the
donor. When blood is taken out of the body, immediately its formation is stimulated and within
one week most of it is added back. Besides hospitals, several voluntary organizations such
as Lions Club, Rotary Club, Red Cross, National Service Scheme periodically organize blood
donation camps. There are people who register their names With the hospitals as permanent
donors. Blood donation saves the life of a fellow human being and brings him back to life from

Recipients blood should match with the donors blood.
